Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Southern California is the place to be for fun. There are amusements parks, aquariums, zoos, museums, water parks, nature parks, mountains, beaches, deserts and more.

A new attraction to Southern California is Disney’s California Adventure. Inside this disneyland vacation you will find a boardwalk along a large lake with rides such as a marine life merry-go-round, a huge Ferris wheel, and a roller coaster that only the hardiest stomachs can handle. A favorite attraction is California Soarin’, a ride that simulates a hang gliding tour over many scenic and popular California spots.

Be sure to visit the sourdough bread factory. There you will find that for a reasonable price you can make a meal of their delicious, fresh sourdough bread and butter.

If it is a hot day come prepared to get wet. There is a great river rapids ride and there are several spots around the park for children to have fun with sprinklers and fountains.

With a two-park pass you can visit both California Adventure and Disneyland. In the summer disney vacations are open till after midnight so you can enjoy California Adventure in the morning and early afternoon and then cross over to a disneyland vacation for the rest of the day to enjoy their rides, the parade and the fireworks show.

A short drive up Interstate 5 takes you to Knott’s Berry Farm, another very popular spot for vacationers and local families wanting to spend time together having fun.

Camp Snoopy provides loads of fun for the younger kids. There you find a pony ride, petting farm, small Ferris wheel and several more rides that children want to go on over and over again. Knott’s also has great roller coasters and other rides, including a stage coach, river rapids ride and log ride as well as several shows.

After a day running around seeing the shows and enjoying the rides you will want to visit the famous Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant. Delicious fried chicken, mouth-watering biscuits and everything topped off with their famous boysenberry pie. It cannot be beat.

Further up Interstate 5 you come to Six Flags Magic Mountain, which is full of roller coasters of every type. For the very young there is a children’s area with rides they will love. Be prepared for higher temperatures in the summer than Disneyland or Knott’s, but if you have teenagers or if you love adventure yourself you do not want to miss it.

Heading south on Interstate 5 about 150 miles you come to a fairly new amusement park, LegoLand. With over 50 rides, shows and attractions it is another Southern California amusement park that takes at least a full day to get around.

They have rides especially for the very young including a miniature train and a boat ride that gently takes you through some favorite fairy tales. There are several water play areas and of course legos to play with. For older children and adults there are roller coasters, water rides, and more.

All of these parks are loaded with fun and all are located a short drive from each other. If you are traveling from out of the area and plan to stay in a hotel, there are many that offer shuttles that provide easy transportation to and from the parks.

Information On A Mexico Vacation Spots

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Thinking of a vacation to Mexico but want to go somewhere different off the beaten path? Here are some ideas for a mexico vacation that will take you beyond Cancun or Puerto Vallarta.

Isla Mujeres, located only eight miles across the bay from Cancun, is a tiny island only five miles long and about a half mile wide. Translated, Isla Mujeres means the “Island of Women”. No, it is not a hidden commune filled with females but it is a charming and tranquil fishing village. It has shops, restaurants and about a dozen or so small hotels where you can rest your head.

With a downtown area consisting of only four or five blocks, this makes Isla Mujeres everything that the big tourist areas in Mexico are not. Surrounded by white sand beaches on all sides, snorkeling and scuba diving are popular in the crystal clear turquoise waters. Kayaks, snorkeling gear, and other water toys can be rented on the beach and fishing, sailing and even swimming with dolphins is available here. Isla Mujeres has something for every one of all ages and is a great place to explore the natural wonders of Mexico.

Another great mexico vacation that is often overlooked is Cabo San Lucas. Its location at the southern tip of the Baja peninsula, gives it an ideal climate of about 78 degrees year round. Once a tranquil fishing village, Cabo has evolved into a wonderful spot for vacationers but remains small and charming. Small however does not mean boring, there are many things to do in Cabo.

Deserted beaches, on both the Pacific coast and along the shoreline of the Sea of Cortez, make Cabo San Lucas an awesome beach vacation. If you enjoy water sports, boating, marlin fishing, horseback riding and golf, you will enjoy Cabo. Golf has become very popular in the area and there are five championship golf courses already here and more on the way.

Cabo San Lucas is a perfect mexico vacation spots spot for those looking for something different. It can be quiet and relaxing for a romantic getaway or it can be a place where you will keep going till you drop with the whole family.

Another one of Mexico’s jewels is Tulum. You will find Tulum about an hours drive south of Playa Del Carmen on the Mayan Coast. Tulum is best known for its Mayan ruins. Small but impressive, the ruins are perched high on top of limestone cliffs that offer a breathtaking view below of the sparkling Caribbean and a romantic coastline.

The little town of Tulum is slowly expanding and there are several very good local restaurants and a few on the beach in the smattering of hotels in the area. Accommodations range from five star boutique hotels to rustic cabanas.

Tulum offers the perfect mixture of tranquility, relaxation and seclusion but still gives you the option of exciting nearby attractions. Day trips in the area are always a good choice and the Eco-tourism experiences are limitless.

It is a much slower paced vacation and a combination of 3-4 days in Playa Del Carmen and 2-3 days in Tulum is a great way to combine the best of both worlds in these treasured spots.

This art gallery is dedicated to Joan Miro I Fera, born on the 20th of April 1893 and who died on the 25th of December 1983. This foundation possesses the biggest public collection of his work: paintings, ceramics, textiles, movies and sculptures. Earning international acclamation, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of Catalan pride. In numerous interviews dating from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting methods as a way of supporting bourgeoise society, and famously declared an “assassination of painting” in favour of upsetting the visual elements of established painting. Generally thought of as a Surrealist because of his interest in automatism and the use of sexual symbols, Miró’s style was influenced in varying degrees by Surrealism and Dada.

Joan Miró i Ferra also won several awards in his lifetime. In 1954 he was given the Venice Biennale print making prize, in 1958 the Guggenheim International Award, and in 1980 he received the Gold Medal of Fine Arts from King Juan Carlos of Spain

It’s said that Miro has been mainly influenced by shapes he saw on his bedroom’s ceiling. Some people say that these shapes don’t have any sense because they don’t have any artistic meaning. For others, this work is simply wonderful…Here is a quote from Miro:

“How did I think up my drawings and my ideas for painting? Well I’d come home to my Paris studio in Rue Blomet at night, I’d go to bed, and sometimes I hadn’t any supper. I saw things, and I jotted them down in a notebook. I saw shapes on the ceiling…”

The Foundation shelters some of Miro’s greatest works, such as “The golden azure” which shows his passion for symbols and signs. However, the foundation also shelters collections provided by others artists. Moreover, the Foundation itself is an architectural work of art created by Josep Luis Sert in 1975.

Just next to this foundation (Joan Miro de Montjuic), you will find a park where you can see the famous sculpture « Dona i l’Ocell » (Women and bird). This park is called “Escordaxor » or The Joan Miro Park and it is quite easy to find it; it is just beside Plaza Espanya. The sculpture has been created in 1983 and it’s 22 meters high. The whole sculpture is covered in mosaics.

Montjuic is easily reachable from the city centre. You can take the underground’s line number 2 or 3 in direction of Parallel. Otherwise, you can also take the funicular for Montjuic. The entrance costs 8€ for adults and 6€ for children.

If you have booked a hotel (hotel barcelone) near to Las Ramblas you will be really closed to all Barcelona’s sightseeing. However, I strongly recommend you to book among the wide range of apartments (hotels barcelone) as soon as possible.

You Should Go To Puerto Vallarta

Monday, November 10th, 2008

We just returned from a wonderful vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; did you know that Puerto Vallarta is tucked away in the middle of the Bay of Banderas, in the Mexican pacific coast? There you will find a gorgeous tourist town rapidly becoming one of the most popular holiday spots in the world and we want to share our experience. We found an incredible Villas In Puerto Vallarta, called La Casa de Arriba, overlooking Los Arcos rocks in the Mismaloya Bay.

The view from the wrap around infinity pool was breath-taking, during the season; they told us that you can watch the migrating whales while in the pool! There is a gourmet kitchen with all the toys and a dining room table that will allow 8 people to eat together. For the kids, big ones included, there is a huge game room with a full size pool table and big screen flat TV. They even had the NFL package so that we could watch all the Sunday action! A huge natural rock that is actually part of the wall accents the game room and built in bar area. And again the view was amazing! Our maid, Carolina, was super helpful with everything. She was born in the area and was able to tell us where to find the best food, gifts, and activities. She even helped us learn a little bit of Spanish.

In town we found great pizza at Encuentros, as well as four identical masked Mexican superheroes, dressed up for Halloween. When we asked them the significance of the costume, we found out that they were from PVRPV, the company that had rented us the Villas In Puerto Vallarta, what a hoot!

After pizza we went bar hopping and found Fridas, where we spent hours enjoying the music and local people. Our concierge turned us on to some great day trips. We took a boat to secluded beaches, had lunch on the beach, and oh, the open bar on the boat was something too! Swimming with the Dolphins, Zip lines, and jungle tours were other options that we had.

I didn’t know that Puerto Vallarta is reported to be the most repeated holiday destinations on earth. By that, they mean that more people return here for a second, third or more holidays than any other place they go… we just want to say thanks for all those who made our vacation so special, we will be back!
